Guy Laliberté celebrated his birthday at “Candy World” at The LIGHT Nightclub on Saturday, August 24 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino

Cirque du Soleil’s mastermind, founder and all-around visionary, Guy Laliberté, celebrated his 60th with an over-the-top birthday extravaganza at The LIGHT Nightclub. The exclusive celebration brought out Las Vegas VIPs, influencers and celebrities including 2019 Playboy Playmate of the Year Jordan Emanuel, international DJ sensation Morgan Page and the cast of Michael Jackson’s “One” by Cirque du Soleil.

The eccentric entrepreneur arrived in a sugar-coated attire, ready to celebrate his birthday. He took center stage with his DJ partner, Nico Stojan, playing back-to-back sets with world renowned DJs like Laurence Matte and Isaiah Martin for an audience that was glowing in “Candy World” themed costumes.

Partygoers were greeted with glow-in-the-dark dancers as they entered the Las Vegas hotspot, transformed into the Candy World theme. Oversized lollipops, plush bears and boxed candy sets draped from the ceiling as stunning visuals looped, creating an immersive experience. Guests were treated to an incredible candy bar where they were showered with treats including an electric cotton candy and face painting station.

LIGHT also surprised Guy with an incredible “Candy World” themed birthday cake as dancers led a sparkler parade singing “Happy Birthday” during his DJ set. The Cirque du Soleil visionary continued to take over the DJ booth late into the night until Isaiah Martin took over, and they closed out the night together in the booth.

LIZZO
AT THE CHELSEA AT COSMOPOLITAN

Minneapolis rapper and singer Lizzo arrived in the Twin Cities with a hard sound and stance, thanks to her Texas roots and time learning the ropes with crews like Atlanta’s Crime Mob. Born Melissa Jefferson in Detroit and raised in Houston, Lizzo earned her moniker when she joined the uniformly named members—Lexo, Nino, and Zeo—of the Cornrow Clique. A 2011 move to Minneapolis found her fronting Lizzo & the Larva Ink while joining the neo-TLC-type group the Chalice. Her work began to intertwine with the city’s indie scene, which included artists like Gayngs, Doomtree, Marijuana Deathsquads, and Har Mar Superstar.

In October 2016, Lizzo made her major-label debut with the EP “Coconut Oil,” which was released by Atlantic’s Nice Life imprint. The following year she released singles “Water Me” and “Truth Hurts,” with “Fitness” and “Boys” arriving the following year. In February 2019, Lizzo issued the title track from her full-length “Cuz I Love You.” Lizzo performs 8 p.m. on October 25 at The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Tickets start at $39 plus taxes and fees and are available at cosmopolitanlasvegas.com.
