DOVE CAMERON- IT GIRL Dove Cameron likes to stay busy. Last year she filmed a six-part TV musical, signed up to star in the movie field Notes On Love. With a blossoming music career to add to her acting credits, Dove is our IT GIRL for January 2022.
“I guess I function best when I have about ten plates spinning at once,” laughs Cameron.
“There’s so much going on right now - but my notes app has never been more filled with lyrics and observations and big ideas.”
Her work ethic has paid off. From the age of 16, a star at Disney won an Emmy for the teen sitcom Liv and Maddie and starred as Maleficent’s daughter in The Descendants.
With 45 million Instagram followers, Cameron has more followers than Olivia Rodrigo and Britney Spears, and they’re following her from the big screen into her world of pop.
Her songs are sex, messy, deliberately avoiding the clichés of love. Her latest singles, “Taste of You” and “Lazy Baby,” are very different, maybe 180 degrees of separation, so she is still feeling and experimenting on what direction she wants to take her music career. “Taste of You” is seemingly inspired by rock legend Trent Reznor and “Lazy Baby” more in a Dua Lipa bag.
2022 should be Cameron’s breakout year. Despite plate spinning and lack of sleep, we’re putting our money on Dove.
