Why Wait for Good Health?

Preventative medicine is gaining in popularity and for many reasons. The opioid epidemic and the extreme rise in obesity in our country have created a recipe for disaster. Which is why I pose the question to us all: why should we wait for good health?

Your health and well being is the one thing in your life you have the most control. However, most wait until our lifestyle, and bad habits make us sick before we head to the doctor’s office. I firmly believe in treating the problem before it becomes an issue in the first place.

Take time to visit your physician for a full blood panel. Ask your doctor to take the time to review your levels in all the critical areas identifying any elevated levels that may need some attention. I know that with my patients this initial part of starting our wellness program can be intimidating to them. But I think it is a bold first step in taking charge of one’s health.

The lab panels help to identify if they are at risk for heart disease, diabetes, liver disease, and points out nutritional deficiencies. I then prescribe a list of recommended supplements to naturally treat any deficiencies that appear.

After meeting with me to review their results, our patients then meet with our dietician to see how they can amp up their diet and fitness regimen to boost their overall well-being.

On their follow-up visits with us, we tailor the plan based on their feedback and progress. Many are surprised how simply taking Vitamin B daily can do wonders to combat fatigue and low energy. And it has been scientifically proven that just performing 20 minutes of exercise a day can boost your brain power, fight depression and stave off unwanted pounds, so we urge our patients to slowly begin a fitness program. The more they stick to it, the better they feel and are more likely to make it a new life habit.

We put so many things in front of taking care of our health. The load at work, the kids, and other everyday stressors. The sad part of doing that is it will result in a decline in our bodies making those things pulling us pull us into bad health.

Why not start today and put your health first for a change? I think that if you do, you will feel better, handle stress better and find a renewed sense of energy to tackle whatever comes your way. Your health is in your hands so don’t wait, start today. Trust me, your body will thank you for it.

Scans Predict Some Autism Cases

People with a particular hereditary cause of autism display structural abnormalities in the brain that are readily distinguished by noninvasive imaging, according to recent research. Using MRI brain scans, scientists found brain structure irregularities in people with autism were caused, in part, by defects in chromosome 16. Those findings were, in turn, related to actual impairments such as problems with communication and social skills. It all suggests that brain imaging could one day be used to spot young children most in need of treatment for an autism spectrum disorder.

It’s estimated that one in 68 U.S. children is “on the spectrum,” and symptoms usually appear early in life.
