Tivoli Village has had its share of growing pains with restaurants opening and closing left and right. It seems the winds may now have changed with the increasing popularity of Angelo Sosa’s Poppy Den, along with a highly-anticipated restaurant opening from Bradley Ogden. A quick tour of Poppy Den will possibly remind you of a mini version of some big time restaurant on the Strip, all with a local, yet highly upscale feel all its own. Once a Greek restaurant, the atmosphere has been fully renovated for Poppy Den, as Sosa created a beautifully light and pleasant experience in which to dine. The detail of the interior design is perfect, right down to the mismatched china that they use to serve up his culinary creations. After having the chance to dine here many times, I can safely recommend this as a great spot for our readers to visit, and soon. Sosa’s hope with this Asian Gastro-Pub concept was to create “new flavors to seduce your palate.” 


There are many opportunities on the menu to get your palate in the mood, if you know what I mean, (wink, wink). But as part of my general rule of thumb, I trusted my server, Brittany, for guidance on what I should sample first. We started with the Watermelon Salad, cubes of watermelon sprinkled with goat cheese and a sweet and salty nut brittle of some kind. Very tasty. Had to order this again on my following visit. Next she suggested we try the Crab Toast with Mango Mustard, which reminded me of the Canal House style of simple flavors and ingredients mixed together in a perfect scrumptious blend. Next we opted to finish things off with the Pupu Platter, which featured a Tuna Appetizer, Sweet Pea Soup, more of that Watermelon Salad, Fish Fritters, and Meatballs. The Pupu Platter was just as delightful as the items we had sampled before its arrival. 

Chef Angelo Sosa has much more on his menu that begs for return visits, such as his Roasted Duck Breast with Poppy Honey, Striped Bass with Edamame Purée, and his Poppy Fries with Kim Cheese Sauce. 

And ladies, don’t miss out on the daily happy hour from 5-6:30 in which ladies drink Champagne and Champagne cocktails for free.
