A WORD FROM THE "BIG SHOT"

DO YOU FEEL LUCKY?
By Eric Brashear

Back in 1971, “Dirty Harry” Callahan (Clint Eastwood) declared the .44 Magnum the most powerful handgun in the world. While that may have been the case over 30 years ago, there’s a new Sheriff in town these days.

The Smith & Wesson 500 shoots a .50 caliber Magnum round – and although it may seem only about 10% larger than the .44 Magnum, it is more than 100% more powerful. With an impressive muzzle energy of over 3,030 foot-pounds of force, the 500 dwarfs the .44 Magnum’s 1,533 foot-pounds of force. You would think that would make the 500 the most powerful handgun in the world, but it isn’t. The Pfeifer Zeliska that shoots what is in effect a .60 caliber Magnum is arguably the most powerful revolver around. But at more than $17,000.00 to own one and $40.00 per round to fire it, we’ll stick with the Smith & Wesson 500, the largest “production” handgun available. Developed in 2002, the 500 was marketed with the ability to take down large African game. We just think it’s fun to watch people’s reactions after squeezing off the first round on this bad boy. It’s not for everyone, but if you think you’ve got what it takes to squeeze a few rounds off, we’ve got you covered. You can shoot the 500 and more at the next Shoot Las Vegas event.
